ARTIST NOTE
Toward Moving+=Image
In this solo exhibition, Kang focuses on visualizing the ENTANGLEMENT of the human and non-human—a state that exists beyond dualistic thinking—through an immersive audio-visual kinetic installation. At its core, a large-scale installation employs two monumental moving screens that form a dynamic kinetic system.
The screens and their projected imagery—juxtaposing fragmented human forms with abstract machine images—merge into a powerful, living mechanism. This system, powered by an intricate network of projections, motors, and sound, initially depicts a binary worldview. The true essence of this work lies in the fact that these screens are not static but physically mobile. By employing two layers of translucent screens, Kang has engineered a system where two previously separate narratives begin to coalesce. As the screens move and overlap, the distinct narratives of the mechanical and the organic become intricately intertwined, creating a rich and complex tapestry of entanglement. Drawing from a background in painting, Kang synthesizes this kinetic vision as Moving+=Image, a new formulation where motion is no longer a mere animation of the image but becomes its very condition of existence.
The work is a multi-part exhibition that unfolds across both indoor and outdoor spaces. It features a large-scale installation inside the museum and a series of drawings that reveal the creative process. The project culminates with a massive facade work at the heart of downtown Seoul. This outdoor piece holds particular significance as it is the first artwork ever to be showcased on Korea's largest facade, Shinsegae Square.
Furthermore, this work builds on a profound personal inquiry into heritage—the intangible assets an artist carries forward over time. The exhibition serves as a physical manifestation of this inquiry, representing a material heritage of immersive installations, a conceptual heritage of reconfiguring binaries, and a systemic heritage of deep technological integration.

Entanglement is a six-minute kinetic video installation structured into four distinct movements: Dissection MRI, Generation, Hybridization, and Entanglement. The narrative is physically manifested through two motorized screens that drift, pause, cross, and overlap in a synchronized choreography.
Enhanced by rich spatial audio, this mechanical dance transforms the viewer's role from a passive observer to an active participant. As the screens shift, the audience is drawn to move with the work—stepping between and circling the installation—to discover unique vantage points and a deeper sense of presence within the digital environment.
Part 1: Dissection — MRI
On Screen A, a brain, a human hand, a robotic arm; on Screen B, a computer motherboard. Each is scanned as if under MRI, the images dissecting human and non-human alike—both uncannily organic, yet mechanical.
Part 2: Generation
Dissection gives way to creation. On Screen A, surfaces split like dividing cells, a sphere forms, and breath begins to pulse with a heartbeat. On Screen B, neural networks multiply into intricate architectures.
Part 3: Hybridization
New entities take shape, crossing between screens, merging as if in dialogue. Organic and mechanical properties blend, birthing unfamiliar hybrids.
Part 4: Entanglement
Divergent objects knot together into a shared world. The metaphoric fragments from earlier parts now fuse into a single, strange community.
