Resonant Void

“Resonant Void” is one of Yiyun's experiments of Between series. In this project, four different moving images of human’s face and hands are projected from four directions onto the cube hung from the ceiling. This piece evokes an uncanny feeling that someone is physically staying inside of the cube. However, this floating object merely gives an illusion created by projections.
In “Resonant Void”, Yiyun explores the sensory disorientation that happens in-between the “real” and the “virtual”. Projected images that capture the traces made by the performer generate confusing moments that blur the boundaries between the real and illusion, surface and depth. In so doing, the familiar yet uncanny images trigger psychological tension between audiences and the projections in a three-dimensional way.
